Jakarta – Former TNI Commander General (Ret.) Moeldoko expressed deep condolences over the death of former Vice President and ABRI Commander General (Ret.) Try Sutrisno, remembering him as a true soldier and national figure capable of inspiring his subordinates with extraordinary spirit.

“What I saw in his character was how a Commander became an agitator for his soldiers. He truly had the ability to inspire with exceptional spirit and inspiration,” Moeldoko said, quoted from Kompas TV on Monday (2 March 2026).

“How to provide motivation to all soldiers to become true patriots,” he added.

According to Moeldoko, Try consistently motivated soldiers to become genuine patriots. The values he most cherished from the late commander were honesty and patriotism.

“The values I adhered to from him were the values of honesty and his patriotism. These were truly extraordinary,” he reminisced.

Beyond this, Try also frequently emphasised the importance of military presence amongst the community. Moeldoko recalled how the late commander always reminded troops about the eight obligations of the TNI, including respect for women’s rights.

“There is one extraordinary clause about respecting women’s rights, so soldiers must uphold this,” he said.

Moeldoko noted that these values also inspired him during his tenure as TNI Commander. He subsequently integrated them with national defence doctrine, producing the motto “TNI Strong with the People”.

Regarding his last moments with Try, Moeldoko mentioned that he would often visit during religious holidays and enjoy East Javanese delicacies together with the late commander.

Moeldoko also confirmed that he would attend Try Sutrisno’s funeral.
