JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency has revealed the modus operandi of subsidised LPG gas misuse in Klaten Regency, Central Java, by transferring the contents of 3-kilogram LPG cylinders to non-subsidised cylinders of 12 and 50 kilograms for resale at higher prices.

“Gas from subsidised cylinders is transferred to non-subsidised cylinders using certain techniques, then sold at non-subsidised prices to gain profit,” stated the Director of Specific Economic Crimes (Tipidter) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General M. Irhamni, in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).

The perpetrators are KA (40), who acted as the injector and weigher, and ARP (26), who served as the transport driver.

Irhamni explained that the uncovering of this case is a follow-up to a public report received on 15 April 2026.

“This law enforcement action is a follow-up to the public information report we received and was immediately followed up with an investigation,” said Irhamni.

From the location, police secured 1,465 LPG cylinders of various sizes, injection equipment, and six operational vehicles.

Through this uncovering, the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency also claims to have successfully prevented potential state losses of around Rp 6.7 billion.

He added that the Police will continue to develop this case until uncovering a wider network, including the financiers.

“We will not stop and will take action up to the financiers and their networks,” emphasised Irhamni.

“The practice of misusing subsidised goods in this case LPG or fuel oil is not only a betrayal of the state but has already betrayed the small communities who are entitled to receive this subsidy,” revealed Nunung.
