Modular Houses Launched to Support Three Million Houses Programme, Capable of Lasting 50 Years
The Ministry of Housing and Human Settlements (PKP), together with the Tangerang City Government, supports the development of modular houses as a solution to accelerate the provision of decent housing for the community. This support was marked by the launch of the first 27-square-metre modular house at the Betawi Cultural House in Cipondoh, Tangerang City, Banten, on Friday (17/4). This innovation is aimed at supporting the construction of three million houses as well as providing housing for disaster victims. Director of Land Preparation and PSU at the Ministry of PKP, Indra Gunawan, stated that the national housing needs are currently very high, especially for low-income communities and for post-disaster recovery. βThe potential of modular houses is very large because the construction process is fast. The units just need to be assembled on site, making it time-efficient,β said Indra in his statement on Saturday. He added that modular houses are expected to have a lifespan of up to 50 years and be resistant to the humid conditions commonly found in Indonesia. In addition, this concept is also considered capable of supporting the improvement of slum areas and can be developed into vertical housing up to four storeys.
