Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has revealed that the Advanced Agriculture System (PM-AAS) modern farming method can increase rice productivity per hectare.

He provided evidence of this during an inspection of a modern harvesting process using the PM-AAS method in Subang Regency, West Java. “This method increases the population, from the previous 360,000 clumps to 800,000 to one million,” Amran stated on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.

The Minister stated that the PM-AAS method can increase rice harvest productivity from a previous average of 5-6 tonnes per hectare to 11-12 tonnes per hectare. According to him, with this method, the number of rice seeds planted will be higher, thereby increasing productivity.

In conventional planting methods, Amran noted that farmers only plant 360,000 clumps per hectare, whereas the PM-AAS method can reach 800,000 to 1 million clumps. “One clump produces 13-15 grams; when multiplied by 800,000 or 1 million, the results are clearly visible,” he said.

Amran added that the PM-AAS method is currently being implemented in 10 provinces, including West Java, North Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, and West Nusa Tenggara. The results, according to Amran, show that using the PM-AAS method has increased rice productivity in several pilot areas by 5-6 tonnes per hectare.

“This increases production twofold; what is usually 5 tonnes can produce 11-12 tonnes,” he added.
