Modern digital foundations critical for aviation industry
Garuda Indonesia is modernising its core systems through the implementation of Rise with SAP. This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing transformation journey, aiming to integrate standardised frameworks, integrated solution suites, and strategic expert guidance as a key milestone in its continuous transformation.
Thomas Oentoro, Garuda Indonesia’s Deputy CEO, stated that as a national carrier serving millions of passengers annually, the airline must adapt to evolving market dynamics and customer expectations.
To meet these needs, Garuda has chosen to transition to the cloud via Rise with SAP to integrate previously fragmented systems, enhance competitiveness, and showcase Indonesia’s renowned hospitality on the global stage.
“Collaboration with SAP is a crucial part of our efforts to strengthen business processes through digital transformation. By modernising our core systems, we are building a more connected, agile, and disciplined organisation, better equipped to manage costs and respond to dynamic operational environments,” Thomas said on Monday, 25 May 2026.
“Through the Rise with SAP implementation, Garuda Indonesia is integrating core business processes across finance, procurement, supply chain, and customer-related operations into SAP Cloud ERP Private,” he added.
“This step will streamline critical back-office functions, including record-to-report workflows, while enhancing operational visibility through integrated analytics and automation capabilities,” he explained.
Sianto Wongjoyo, Managing Director of SAP Indonesia, explained that the transformation delivers a digital user experience based on SAP Fiori, enabling role-based access and intuitive workflows to improve daily usability across the organisation.
“Implemented in a private managed cloud environment, the solution provides a secure, reliable, and scalable technology foundation while simplifying IT operations and reducing system complexity,” he added.
He noted that amid increasing operational complexity and evolving customer expectations in the aviation industry, modern digital foundations are critically important.
“By adopting SAP Cloud ERP Private through the Rise with SAP journey, Garuda Indonesia is building a robust foundation to streamline operations and enhance transparency,” he said.
“This move also positions the airline to advance towards an autonomous enterprise, where AI-driven automation can support more efficient and adaptive operations, helping the company better respond to changing demand and market dynamics,” Sianto continued.
He added that as Garuda Indonesia continues to strengthen its fleet readiness and operational capacity, this transformation will also aid in improving maintenance and asset management.
