Moderate quake hits Nias
JAKARTA: A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Nias island early on Saturday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.
The quake was recorded by the agency at 12:44 a.m. local time and its epicenter was located about 45 kilometers northwest of the town of Gunung Sitoli, the agency said on its website. Residents fled from their homes during the minute-long temblor, which appeared to have caused no damage or casualties.
The quake is the latest in a series of aftershocks that have hit Nias since a deadly earthquake in March killed about 900 people and left thousands injured and homeless. -- AP
