Mobile phone snatching incident occurs again in Jelambar, West Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A mobile phone snatching incident occurred again on Jalan Satria VIII, Jelambar, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta (Jakbar), on Friday (15/5) afternoon.

The incident occurred when the surrounding area was relatively quiet, but it was recorded by a surveillance camera (CCTV) and went viral on social media.

In the viral recording, a young man is seen walking around the location. He then spots a mobile phone in a basket, right next to the victim’s husband who was sleeping on a chair.

The owner of the mobile phone, named Cucu, said that she saw the perpetrator walk past the location before turning around and snatching her phone.

According to her, when the incident occurred, her husband was sleeping near the basket where the phone was stored.

“My husband was sleepy and sleeping on the chair. Then, he took the mobile phone from here (the basket). I shouted ‘thief’, and he immediately ran away,” said Cucu when met at the location on Saturday morning.

“A woman, around 17 years old,” said Cucu.

Meanwhile, Surahmat, the victim’s husband, said that he tried to chase after the perpetrator after hearing his wife’s screams. However, the attempt failed because he fell while chasing him.

“I was sleeping on the chair. After my wife shouted ‘thief’, I immediately chased after him, but I fell and the perpetrator managed to escape,” said Surahmat.

As a result of falling while chasing the perpetrator, Surahmat suffered quite severe injuries to his right wrist.

In addition, the victim also suffered material losses of up to millions of rupiah due to the loss of the mobile phone.

Until now, the victim still hopes that the police from the Grogol Petamburan Police and the West Jakarta Metro Police will immediately investigate the snatching case and arrest the perpetrator.
