Mobile Brigade back in Madura

PAMEKASAN, East Java: The East Java Police Command plans to station an elite Mobile Brigade unit in Pamekasan regency on Madura island, Antara said.

Madura Police Chief Col. Adna Isa said the move was part of an overall reorganization by the National Police to beef up the force's strength in the regions.

He denied that it was prompted by the unrest in Madura during the May general election.

New barracks for the brigade will be built in Nyalaran village, Pamekasan district, on 7.6 hectares of land. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month.

As part of the reorganization, the East Java Police Command plans to set up barracks for the Mobile Brigade in Bojonegoro, Besuki, Madiun and Pamekasan. They will be in addition to the three existing facilities in Surabaya, Malang and Kediri. (10)
