MKGR to Hold Extraordinary Congress to Elect New Chairman to Replace Adies Kadir

The Gotong Royong Family Council (MKGR), a founding mass organisation of the Golkar Party, will hold an Extraordinary National Congress (Mubeslub) to elect a new chairman to replace Adies Kadir. Adies previously resigned as chairman of the organisation after being elected as a Constitutional Court (MK) judge last February.

Acting MKGR Chairman Maman Abdurrahman stated that the Mubeslub will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel on Saturday, 11 July, and will be attended by Golkar Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia. "The congress will open at 7 p.m. on 11 July. And God willing, it will also be attended by Mr Bahlil as the Chairman of the Golkar Party. The venue is at Shangri-La," he said during a press conference at the MKGR office in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Maman, the election of a new chairman will be the sole agenda of the Mubeslub. Registration for candidates will be open from 9 to 10 July. However, he noted that the forum would not close the door to any input regarding amendments to the organisation’s articles of association. "So for now, we just wait for the organisational mechanism to see who will register as a candidate for chairman," Maman said.

Maman revealed that Wihaji is currently the strongest candidate to replace Adies. Wihaji currently serves as Minister of Population and Family Development. According to Maman, the majority of MKGR’s regional administrators have proposed Wihaji as the new chairman for the next term. "So far, based on the information we have received, the majority are trying to endorse Mr Wihaji to replace Mr Adies Kadir," Maman said.
