TOKYO (Dow Jones): Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will introduce its Asia car in Indonesia as early as this spring, the company's president, Katsuhiko Kawasoe, said at an Osaka news conference Monday, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported in its Tuesday morning edition.
The car, which can be used as both a passenger and commercial vehicle, is part of the company's efforts to introduce vehicles designed for various Asian markets.
Mitsubishi Motors will make the multipurpose vehicle in Jakarta through a joint venture. The company had initially set a monthly sales goal of 2,200 vehicles but now aims to start out selling 300 to 500 units a month.
The automaker, which had postponed plans for a 1998 introduction, expects a revival in the Indonesian auto market to begin in the latter half of 1999.
