Mitsubishi spurs U.S. units
TOKYO (AFP): Japan's Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has decided to
inject US$350 million into its two U.S. units in a bid to offset
accumulated losses, a company spokesman said yesterday.
Under the plan, Mitsubishi is to invest an extra $100 million
in Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing America and another $250
million in Mitsubishi Motors Sales America, said the spokesman
for the Japanese car maker, which has teamed up with Daimler-Benz
of Germany.
The two units have suffered a total of $1.7 billion losses due
to sluggish sales, following the damage of its corporate image
after Mitsubishi Motor was sued over sexual harassment practices
at its U.S. unit, he said.
