Mitsubishi Reveals Government Free Nutritious Meal Programme Driving Pickup Sales
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government’s Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) is beginning to impact demand for commercial vehicles. One manufacturer benefiting from this effect is Mitsubishi through sales of its flagship L300 pickup.
Irwan Kuncoro, Director of the Sales and Marketing Division at PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI), revealed that operational requirements for the programme are driving vehicle demand.
“Yes, several are for MBG programme requirements,” Irwan said during Mitsubishi’s Iftar media event in Jakarta on Friday (27 February 2026).
However, he declined to detail the extent of sales growth since the programme commenced. According to him, the company is still calculating its precise contribution to the model’s sales performance.
“There is certainly an impact, but we haven’t finalised the figures yet,” he stated.
He explained that vehicle purchases associated with the government programme are not conducted directly with the principal. The procurement scheme continues to follow established distribution channels within Mitsubishi’s network.
“Through dealers, always through dealers. Both retail and project sales remain through our dealer network,” he said.
Kuncoro further noted that the government programme does provide additional demand for light commercial vehicles. However, the sales structure for this model remains dominated by retail buyers.
“Yes, that’s correct. The L300 is still predominantly retail-driven, though project sales do exist,” he added.
In Indonesia, distribution of Mitsubishi vehicles is handled by Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia, while commercial vehicles such as the L300 are produced locally by Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI).
