Curiosity surrounding the hybrid model that Mitsubishi will launch in Indonesia this year remains partially unanswered. During a media question-and-answer session at the iftar opening event at the PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) office in Pulomas, East Jakarta, on Thursday (27 February 2026), President Director Atsushi Kurita withheld technical and commercial details of the vehicle electrification.

“If I explain everything, I won’t be able to return to Japan,” he quipped.

What can be confirmed, however, is that the hybrid model will be produced in Indonesia. Production is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2026, with sales to consumers to follow thereafter. The official market launch is targeted for the second half of 2026.

Kurita hinted that Mitsubishi has two hybrid models that have already been marketed in Thailand. However, he has not yet disclosed which model will be brought and assembled in the country.

Regarding configuration—whether five-seater or seven-seater—and price range, he was also unwilling to elaborate. The vehicle will be adapted to meet Indonesian consumer needs and positioned as a long-term strategic product, he said.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi is not solely pursuing large sales figures at the initial stage. Kurita emphasised that this model represents Mitsubishi’s first hybrid in Indonesia, so technology education and communication aspects are the primary focus.

“Every company has different hybrid technology. We want to demonstrate the uniqueness of Mitsubishi’s hybrid technology,” he said.

Nevertheless, volume remains a target. Management hopes for a positive market response, particularly if specifications and pricing are deemed competitive. “Customers and the market will judge whether the price is competitive. We will endeavour to deliver high quality with specifications suitable for Indonesian society,” Kurita said.
