Mitsubishi, Honda to recall cars
TOKYO: Two Japanese automakers, Mitsubishi and Honda, said on
Thursday they will recall for repairs a total of at least 570,000
cars they had sold at home and abroad.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said it would recall 205,732 units of
three models -- the Galant and Galant Aspire sedans as well as
the Legnum stationwagon -- which had been sold in Japan, to fix a
faulty joint used in the front-wheel suspension system.
The vehicles were built between 1996 and 2001.
The defect could result in the joint giving way but it has not
led to any accident so far, the company said in a report to the
ministry of transport.
Mitsubishi Motors will also recall 11,277 Grandis minivans in
Japan built last year to correct a defect in the windshield wiper
motor, the report said.
The company will also repair 143,644 Galant, Galant Aspire and
Legnum cars sold in some 130 countries and 272 Grandis vehicles
abroad, most of them in Singapore. -- AFP
