Mitsubishi has confirmed the return of the Pajero model with the release of a new teaser, which will be sold as Montero in certain markets. According to Carscoops’ report on Friday, the latest teaser features elongated T-shaped LED headlights pointing towards the Mitsubishi emblem on the new model. The new Pajero will use a ladder-frame chassis from the Triton pickup, positioning it as the successor to the ageing Pajero Sport. However, Mitsubishi stated there would be specific model developments for the cabin and front and rear suspension. The company also promised ‘exceptional off-road capability’ and ‘smooth and comfortable ride’ for the new Pajero. Historically, Mitsubishi renamed the Pajero to Montero in North America, South America, Spain, and the Philippines, meaning those markets are likely to receive the new generation. The original Pajero was introduced in 1982 to combine 4WD off-road performance with passenger car comfort. The model has sold over 3.25 million units across more than 170 countries over four generations and has secured 12 Dakar Rally victories.
