Police have revealed new facts regarding the case of TVRI Papua Barat presenter, Yanto Indorway, who was found dead after being missing for several days. While it was initially suspected that he had been swept away by the currents of the Memti River in the Arfak Mountains, West Papua, it has been revealed that the victim died after being assaulted by two men, identified by the initials D and P, who have now been named as suspects.

“Two individuals have been named as suspects,” stated the Head of Public Relations for the West Papua Regional Police, Kombes Trihadi Kuncahyo, on Sunday (27/09/2026).

The suspects were identified following a case review conducted by the West Papua Regional Police regarding Yanto’s death, as per police report LP/A/1/VII/2026/Polres Pegunungan Arfak/Polda Papua Barat, on Friday (25/09). Based on the results of the case review, investigators concluded that at least two pieces of sufficient evidence had been met to designate D and P as suspects.

“Against both suspects, investigators are applying charges of murder and/or assault resulting in death, as referred to in Article 458 paragraph (1) and/or Article 466 paragraph (3) juncto Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code,” he explained.

Trihadi explained that the naming of the suspects is part of the investigation process conducted based on facts and evidence obtained by investigators. Furthermore, the legal process will continue in accordance with the provisions of the prevailing laws and regulations.

“The West Papua Regional Police are committed to handling this case professionally, transparently, and accountably, and to providing legal certainty to all parties. We also urge the public not to speculate and to leave the legal process entirely to the investigators,” he added.
