Missing on Mount Merapi
Missing on Mount Merapi
On March 24, 1995 we were told that Darren Roper was reported missing on Mount Merapi, Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra, along with Edwards Williams and that a search by Mapala Proklamator along with the police was underway.
Edward Williams later returned to Tubarair after seven days of being lost. Chris Roper and Lee Morgan (brother & brother-in-law) joined the search on March 29, 1995. Meanwhile, Mr. Paul Harris arrived in Jakarta to conduct meetings with businessmen and officials from Jakarta.
After three weeks Darren Roper had still not been found. After returning to England Mr. Harris, Mr. Morgan and Bill Roper returned to Jakarta on April 18, 1995 to commence further meetings with the Yayasan Survival Indonesia. On conclusion of this meeting it was agreed that the Yayasan would continue their search for Darren for a total of 30 days commencing April 24, 1995. Mr. Paul Harris has been in constant contact by telephone and fax with coordinator of the Yayasan at Microwave Tower in Kotabaru.
Mr. Morgan has again been to the Posko Tower, and has since returned to Jakarta with strong possibilities of returning to Sumatra again.
Mr. Harris said progress is being made and I am confident of a result. We would like to thank everyone that has given their help in the search for Darren Roper, and special thanks to Mr. Sutan Manahan.
