Missing for 3 Days, Search for Long-Haired Grandmother in Nusa Penida Expanded

Ni Nyoman Selir has been reported missing for three days and has not returned to her home in Semaya Hamlet, Suana Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali. The whereabouts of the elderly woman with long white hair remain a mystery.

Nusa Penida Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Kesuma Jaya said the search operation on the third day continued to be intensified. The joint team is not only combing residential areas but also deploying tracking dogs to trace the footsteps of the 79-year-old grandmother.

According to Kesuma Jaya, the search has now been expanded to the borders of neighbouring villages. Clues from CCTV footage and statements from residents serve as the main reference for the team’s movements in the field.

“We are combing the points usually passed by the victim, from plantations and residential areas to village border areas,” said Kesuma Jaya on Saturday (29/8/2026).

Kesuma Jaya said the hilly plantation terrain poses a particular challenge for the joint SAR team. For this reason, tracking is focused with the help of the scent detection of special dogs from SAR Dog Indonesia to search locations believed to have been passed by Selir.

The morning search session, which lasted until 11.45 WITA, had not yet yielded results. The joint team resumed the second wave of searching at 16.00 WITA.

Kesuma Jaya said Selir has long greying hair, is approximately 154 centimetres tall, and has a tan complexion. He urged the people of Nusa Penida who see someone matching these characteristics to report immediately.

Selir was reported missing in the Banjar Semaya area, Suana Village, Nusa Penida, on Thursday (27/8). According to information, the elderly woman left her home on foot heading towards a hill on Monday (24/8).
