Missing ferry skipper summoned
MANILA (AFP): Maritime investigators summoned on Monday the disappeared captain of a passenger ferry which sank in central Philippine waters, as another survivor was found four days after the tragedy, officials and state television said.
The military had set the official tally from the sinking of the MV Asia-South Korea at 42 dead and 700 rescued, said Maj. Gen. Santos Gabison, who is in charge of the rescue efforts.
One survivor on Monday drifted ashore in Ajuy, a coastal town nearly 100 kilometers west of the accident site, while a corpse was seen floating off Bantayan island still strapped into a life vest, he added. The identities of the two were not known.
The 27-year-old ship was built to carry 614 passengers and 58 crew. Gabison said the military had not been able to fix the total number of people still missing because of discrepancies on the ship manifest.
