Missing engineer feared murdered
SINGAPORE (AFP): Police were yesterday investigating whether
human body parts found in the sea here over the last week were
those of a South African engineer who went missing after a
shopping trip in Singapore.
Parts of a decomposed body have been recovered from the sea
off Singapore's Clifford Pier since March 13, police said, as
local newspapers linked the grisly find to Gerard George Lowe, a
chemical engineer with South African Breweries.
Lowe, 32, was believed to have arrived in Singapore on March 8
for a shopping holiday and was due to have returned home on March
11, it said.
The Straits Times daily reported that a boatman found a pair
of legs, severed at the knee, inside a plastic bag sealed with
blue underwear, on March 13.
