Missile Attack Targets Qatar as Sirens Wail in Doha

A missile attack has been launched against Qatar. The attack was successfully intercepted by the armed forces. According to Al Jazeera and AFP, on Sunday, 8 March 2026, an explosion was heard in the city of Doha. Sirens wailed after the blast. ‘The armed forces have intercepted a missile attack targeting the State of Qatar,’ the Ministry of Defence said. The Qatari Ministry of Interior issued a new alert via mobile phones, stating that the security threat level had been ‘raised’. The government instructed residents to remain indoors. In the wake of mounting tensions, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, spoke by telephone with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel-Aty. ‘They discussed the escalating military situation in the region and the serious impact on regional and international security and stability,’ said the Qatari Foreign Ministry. Sheikh Mohammed condemned the attack and called for an immediate halt to escalatory actions and a return to the negotiating table. Meanwhile, Abdel-Aty also called for de-escalation and the resumption of negotiations and diplomatic channels to avoid further chaos.
