Miss Universe to visit here

JAKARTA (JP): Miss Universe 1995 Chelsi Smith of the United States is scheduled to visit Jakarta to attend the Total Beauty Trends 1995 exhibition to be held from Oct. 20 through 23.

Smith will be the guest of honor at the four-day exhibition, which will also feature a technical and scientific seminar on cosmetic products, the exhibition's organizing committee chairman Robert Felix told Antara on Thursday.

According to him, the cosmetic industry has a bright future in Indonesia in keeping pace with the country's rapid economic growth.

This year's exhibition will be the third in a biennial series, the first being held in 1991.

Felix said the presence of the 21-year-old Smith would grace this year's event. "She will undoubtedly be the main draw-card of the exhibition."

The brown-eyed Texan won the 1995 Miss Universe crown in May in Windhoek, Namibia, becoming the third American since 1980 to take the coveted title.

Smith is the first African-American to win the beauty pageant, which was held in an African country for the first time in its 43-year history. (bas)
