Misdirected Fire: Three US Fighter Jets Shot Down by Kuwait
Three US Air Force fighter jets crashed in Kuwaiti territory during active combat operations against Iran. Ironically, the aircraft were not shot down by the enemy, but rather by what appears to be friendly fire from allied air defences.
“Three US F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft operating in support of Operation Epic Fury crashed over Kuwait due to a friendly fire incident,” said US Central Command (CENTCOM) in a statement, referring to the ongoing joint Israeli-American military operation against Iran.
CENTCOM explained that the incident occurred during intense active combat. The situation at the time included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones.
In these circumstances, US Air Force fighter jets were inadvertently fired upon by Kuwait’s air defence system. According to CENTCOM, during the active engagement that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and unmanned drones, US Air Force jets were accidentally shot down by Kuwaiti air defences.
All six aircraft crew members successfully ejected from the incident.
“All six crew members ejected safely, have been evacuated safely, and are in stable condition,” CENTCOM stated.
Kuwait has acknowledged the incident. The United States has also expressed appreciation for the response provided by local authorities.
“Kuwait has acknowledged this incident, and we appreciate the efforts of Kuwait’s defence forces and their support in this ongoing operation,” the statement continued.
CENTCOM affirmed that the incident involving the three fighter jets is now under further investigation.
