Misbakhun Denies Allegations Regarding Cigarette Excise Stamp Orders
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Mukhamad Misbakhun, has denied allegations linking him to the ordering of cigarette excise stamps.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, Misbakhun addressed allegations that emerged from the ‘Bocor Alus’ podcast and reports by Tempo Magazine, which mentioned his name in relation to cigarette excise stamp matters.
“I did not do what was presented in those broadcasts or news reports,” he said.
The Golkar Party legislator stated that the public could review his track record in fighting for the interests of tobacco farmers.
“As a member of the DPR RI representing the East Java II constituency, specifically Probolinggo and Pasuruan regencies—which are tobacco-producing areas—I have always sided with and defended the interests of tobacco farmers. I have consistently requested that the excise rates for hand-rolled clove cigarettes (SKT) remain low because it benefits the tobacco farmers,” he said.
Misbakhum also responded to the mention of Adi Harnowo as a parliamentary expert (TA) in the podcast. According to him, Adi has not worked for him for a long time.
He noted that since the current term of DPR members was inaugurated in October 2024, Adi Harnowo’s name has not appeared on his list of experts. “Please confirm directly with the person concerned,” he added.
Furthermore, Misbakhun stated that he possesses no authority regarding the ordering of cigarette excise stamps, as this falls under the jurisdiction of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) of the Ministry of Finance.
He admitted to contacting the Director of Communication and User Guidance of the DJBC, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, to obtain clarification regarding the issue. According to Misbakhun, during their communication, Nirwala stated that his name was not found in any issues related to the ordering of cigarette excise stamps.
“Mr Nirwala conveyed that my name is not involved in the cigarette excise stamp ordering issue,” he said.
Misbakhun added that any investigation into the alleged misuse of excise stamps is the responsibility of the DJBC. Therefore, he encouraged the public to seek clarification from both the parties publishing the news and those mentioning his name.
