Mirae Asset Urges Investors to Strengthen Portfolios Through Diversification

Amid fluctuating market conditions, investors are reminded to implement disciplined and diversified portfolio management strategies, according to Head of Fund Services at Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia, Francisca Gerungan. She assessed that uncertain market conditions mean investors can no longer rely on a single investment instrument, emphasising the importance of the diversification principle in building a healthy portfolio. “We will provide a wealth management approach. So, in market conditions that are certainly challenging, we want to continue providing education to our investors to ‘not put your eggs in one basket’,” Francisca said during a Mirae Asset Sekuritas Media Day event in Jakarta on Tuesday. Francisca noted that developments in digital technology and fintech have also made investment access significantly easier, leading to a rapid increase in the number of mutual fund investors in Indonesia in recent years. Of the total 20.32 million capital market investors, mutual fund investors from fintech grew rapidly to approximately 19.17 million Single Investor Identifications by the end of 2025, and in the first quarter of 2026, the figure rose to 23.5 million mutual fund investors. However, the challenge that has emerged is no longer just about access, but rather discipline in investing. She said there are still many investors who open an account and then stop investing regularly, even though strategies such as monthly auto-invest can help funds grow consistently over the long term. “So actually, new mutual fund investors are growing rapidly, but perhaps the habit or discipline of investing is what needs to be continuously instilled. After opening an IFUA account and investing, they then stop. We want them to auto-invest into mutual funds every month so that their funds grow,” she said. In facing unstable market conditions, Francisca said the core-satellite strategy is one of the recommended approaches. The core portfolio serves as the stable, long-term oriented foundation of the investment, while the satellite portion is used to capture opportunities from trending sectors or themes with higher potential returns. In addition, investors are advised to rebalance their portfolios periodically, for example every six months or annually. The goal is to lock in profits, adjust asset composition, and ensure the portfolio remains aligned with financial objectives. To support investors in building a healthy portfolio, Mirae Asset, through its M-Fund platform, provides various mutual fund asset classes, ranging from money market, fixed income, balanced, and equity funds to index funds. This allows investors to implement the core-satellite strategy within a single integrated platform. The application is currently used by approximately 53,000 investors and is supported by nearly 30 education offices and more than 200 support team members ready to assist investors.
