The government’s plan to increase the maximum retail price (HET) for Minyakita is still being finalised. Although the decision to raise the price of this public cooking oil has been agreed upon, the government has not yet determined the exact amount of the increase, as it is awaiting developments in crude palm oil (CPO) prices.

Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman stated that discussions regarding the new HET for Minyakita will be further deliberated with relevant ministries. He noted that further coordination is required before the government reaches a final decision.

“I have just returned from the Holy Land. I will coordinate with the Minister of Trade and report to the Coordinating Minister,” Amran said when met at his office in Jakarta on Monday (8/6/2026).

Amran assessed that current CPO prices remain relatively controlled. However, he emphasised that determining the new HET for Minyakita cannot be decided unilaterally and must involve discussions with the Ministry of Trade and the Coordinating Ministry for Food.

“I have just returned to the office. I need to wait for the coordination meeting. Currently, our CPO prices should be fine. I will coordinate with the Minister of Trade and then report to the Coordinating Minister,” he added.

Previously, the government had signalled a strong intention to adjust the HET for Minyakita. This agreement was reached during a ministerial-level coordination meeting held at the Ministry of Trade office on Thursday (4/6/2026).

Minister of Trade Budi Santoso stated that the government has approved the plan to raise the Minyakita HET following cross-ministerial discussions.

“Following up on the previous meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Food office, we have agreed today to increase the maximum retail price (HET) for Minyakita,” Budi Santoso said during a press conference.

Nevertheless, the government has not yet determined the magnitude of the price hike. The determination of the new HET remains dependent on market conditions, particularly the fluctuations in CPO prices in recent periods.

Budi explained that CPO prices had previously risen to an average of Rp15,445 per kg, before correcting back to the range of Rp14,000 per kg.

“It recently dropped again to around Rp14,000 per kg, and while fresh fruit bunch (TBS) prices had decreased, they are now starting to rise again,” he explained.

The government aims to ensure that the decision to raise the Minyakita HET is made when raw material conditions are more stable. Consequently, the price adjustment will not be announced until CPO price developments are deemed sufficiently consistent.

While awaiting further evaluation, the government has indicated that a decision regarding the new Minyakita HET could be announced in the near future, once all considerations regarding CPO prices and domestic market conditions have been finalised.
