Minivan drivers seek help
TANGERANG (JP): Around 3,000 public minivan drivers went to the regional council yesterday, demanding a ban on vehicles with black number plates from operating along their routes.
Black number plates are for privately owned cars, while public transportation vehicles use yellow plates.
The drivers also claimed the presence of other vehicles operating illegally on the same route, which they said were fake because they should have been plying another route.
The drivers claimed that the route numbers on the illegal vehicles had been painted over to conceal their proper routes.
Twelve representatives of drivers plying the Cikokol, Cimone and Jatake routs were received by several councilors.
P. Sitorus, the spokesman for the drivers, said no other vehicles should be allowed to ply the route apart from the buses numbered R 01.
The head of Tangerang's Land Transportation and Traffic Agency office, Mamat Rahmat, denied the presence of the alleged illegal buses.
"If there are any, we will take stern action," he assured. (18/bas)
