Ministry to report firms for pollution
JAKARTA: The Office of the State Minister of the Environment will report two state-owned enterprises operating in East Java to the police for heavily polluting rivers.
Environment minister Rachmat Witoelar said on Wednesday the two were among 38 firms in the country that had been categorized as heavy polluters according to the ministry's 2005 survey.
Rachmat's office surveyed 467 companies in regards to their compliance with environment preservation measures, the results of which will be reported to the President.
Rachmat said 38 firms were categorized as heavy polluters, 17 of which will have their licenses revoked. -- Antara
