Ministry says free nutritious meals programme has reached 10.8 million beneficiaries

The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN has stated that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and toddlers (3B) has reached 10.8 million beneficiaries as of 18 August 2026, based on data from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).

“For those who have received it up to 18 August 2026, based on BGN data, the figure is 10.8 million, with the breakdown being 964,000 pregnant women, 2.4 million breastfeeding mothers, and 7.4 million toddlers not enrolled in early childhood education,” said Wahyuniati, Deputy for Community Mobilisation and Participation at Kemendukbangga/BKKBN, during a media discussion in Jakarta on Monday.

Wahyuniati added that the number of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) serving the MBG 3B programme has reached 24,606 across Indonesia.

To ensure the MBG 3B programme is properly targeted and reaches beneficiaries correctly, Kemendukbangga/BKKBN is optimising the role of Family Support Teams (TPK), which number 139,000 personnel.

“This is internal to us, and we are also working together with BGN on several strengthening measures. The strengthening that has been carried out includes training and education, because TPK has two tasks in the MBG 3B programme: first, distribution, and second, education,” she said.

“We have conducted special education training for TPK as the first measure, and secondly, training for MBG 3B facilitators at the provincial level. This strengthening is aimed at personnel at the provincial level so that provinces can then go into the field to train those on the ground,” she explained.

Wahyuniati added that her ministry has also disseminated communication, information and education (KIE) guidelines to field officers, including TPK.

“The MBG 3B KIE guidelines have been prepared and disseminated, followed by technical training on nutritious meal assistance and education on healthy food consumption patterns for family planning extension workers in 2026,” she said.

Wahyuniati continued that this strengthening aims to achieve the national target of 21 million beneficiaries, while also serving as an effort to reduce stunting rates and improve national nutrition quality.
