Ministry restructures foreign trade bodies

JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Trade will restructure its Directorate General of Foreign Trade to cope with the growing trend of globalized trade, Minister of Trade Satrio B. Joedono said yesterday.

"We have been preparing the restructuring for a year by training officials dealing with foreign trade to fill in the new posts," he said after inaugurating 27 directors and other trade officials at his office here yesterday.

He said he had proposed the restructuring plan to the State Minister for Administrative Reforms and other related officials.

He explained that under the restructuring plan, the directorate of industrial and mining product exports and the directorate of agricultural and forestry product exports will be united into the directorate of exports.

The directorate of foreign trade relations will be split into three directorates -- one dealing with bilateral trade, another with regional trade and the other with multilateral trade.

He said the directorate of imports and the directorate of quality control will be maintained.

"By restructuring the directorate general of foreign trade, we will be capable of handling the growing volume in foreign trade," Joedono commented.

The officials installed yesterday included Riyanto B. Yosokumoro, who was appointed director of imports, Rosediana Soeharto as director for standardization and quality control and Muchtar as director for exports of industrial and mining products.

Neneng was installed as director for the development of trade facilities, Anwar Pasinringi as director for the domestic distribution of industrial and mining products and Rasben Simanullang as director for trade development.

Joedono also appointed Gofar Bain, Taufik Abbas, Hamonangan Siregar and Gusmardi Bustani as expert assistants to the Minister of Trade.(kod)
