Ministry pushes campus quality improvement through SPMI implementation

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has affirmed that the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) is a strategic instrument for sustainably boosting the quality of higher education institutions in Indonesia.

Beny Bandanadjaja, Director of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) at Kemdiktisaintek, stated during a socialisation event for the SPMI Implementation Guidebook for Academic Higher Education Institutions in Jakarta on Monday that efforts to improve the quality of higher education are a collective responsibility that must be carried out in a planned, systematic, and continuous manner by all campus elements.

“In this context, the Internal Quality Assurance System becomes a strategic instrument that ensures all processes of higher education implementation run according to established standards,” he said.

To realise this ideal quality assurance ecosystem, Kemdiktisaintek has introduced the SPMI Implementation Guidebook, designed as a comprehensive navigation tool for academic education providers. Beny explained that the guidebook is structured to assist higher education institutions in designing and executing a quality assurance system that is truly relevant to each campus’s specific vision and mission.

Through this nationwide socialisation forum, Beny expressed high hopes that all university representatives can fully absorb the substance of the guide, understand the implementation strategy, and adopt best practices from other institutions. “Thus, the implementation of SPMI will not only serve as regulatory compliance but will truly become an ingrained culture in every academic and non-academic activity, contributing to the improvement of higher education quality nationally,” he said.
