Ministry provides trauma recovery for earthquake and forest fire victims
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN is providing trauma recovery for victims of the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and victims of forest and land fires (karhutla) in several regions of Indonesia.
“We also have trauma healing. I have asked our friends from Generasi Berencana (Genre) to be involved in trauma healing because small aftershocks are still continuing,” said Minister of Population and Family Development/Head of BKKBN Wihaji at the Antara Heritage Center (AHC), Jakarta, Monday.
He stressed that Kemendukbangga/BKKBN has eight family functions that must continue to be implemented in any condition, including during disasters. The eight family functions are the functions of love and affection, religion, social culture, protection, reproduction, socialisation and education, economy, and environmental development.
Minister Wihaji added that his ministry is empowering family planning field officers on the ground to provide education, assistance and knowledge that can help the trauma recovery process for victims affected by disasters.
He also mentioned that there are approximately hundreds of family planning field officers who have also become victims of the earthquake in NTT. Kemendukbangga/BKKBN is currently collecting data on affected field officers so that assistance and support can be provided immediately.
He called on all Indonesians to work together to provide assistance, whether in the form of donations or other aid, for communities affected by the earthquake. Minister Wihaji also assured that the government continues to be present for the affected victims.
“Everyone is now present, there are organisations, the state, everyone is working hard to be there. Earlier I happened to speak with a field officer whose house is truly uninhabitable, so we will help according to our capacity, and we from the ministry’s extended family will also, God willing, provide support beyond the ministry through donations and self-help initiatives. This means we are working together for our families in NTT, Kalimantan and other regions that need assistance,” said Minister Wihaji.
