Ministry of Youth strengthens Indonesian youth diplomacy at SSEAYP 2026 in Bangkok
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has reaffirmed its commitment to international diplomacy at the strategic forum of the Conference of Government Representatives during the SSEAYP 2026 programme in Bangkok, Thailand.
At the forum, Indonesia actively participated in shaping the future direction of the programme, which involves 11 participating countries.
The Indonesian delegation, represented by Senior Policy Analyst at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Yossi Ahmad Falah, emphasised in a statement on Wednesday that this involvement represents a character-building investment for the nation's youth.
"Our presence at this forum is highly crucial and strategic. This is not merely about accepting an invitation, but also about demonstrating Indonesia's commitment to nurturing a young generation that is globally minded, adaptive, and capable of strengthening inter-state relations," said Yossi.
According to him, the Ministry views the SSEAYP programme as a highly valuable long-term investment for the future of regional diplomacy and friendship, as well as for the character development of Indonesian youth.
He added that Indonesia's presence is key to ensuring the continuity of ASEAN-Japan youth collaboration as a driving force for global solutions.
In line with this vision, the Indonesian Youth Delegation captured attention by presenting the theme "Merakit: Meraih Asa untuk Bangkit" (Assembling: Reaching for Hope to Rise).
The concept focuses on social innovation and the spirit of collaboration to address the challenges of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through the "Merakit" programme, Indonesian youth are committed to creating tangible impact in their communities upon returning home.
Administrator of Japan's Cabinet Office Makino Masahiro expressed appreciation for the active contributions of all participants. The forum also served as a platform for consolidation ahead of the golden celebration of SSEAYP's 50th anniversary in 2027.
Indonesia, together with friendly nations, has begun thorough planning to ensure the historic 50th anniversary of SSEAYP produces competent future leaders.
"We very much hope that through this SSEAYP programme, great future leaders will emerge who are capable of bringing positive change to the region. Moreover, equally importantly, this programme is expected to continually enhance the sense of brotherhood, friendship, and mutual understanding among ASEAN countries and Japan," Makino concluded.
