Ministry of Youth and Sports to Partner with Danantara to Manage the National Sports Hospital
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora RI) will work with Danantara to manage the National Sports Hospital (RSON) in Cibubur, East Jakarta. This strategic plan was revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, during a gathering with the media in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (24/2/2026).
“We will establish a Public Service Agency (BLU) to work with Danantara in managing the RSON,” said Minister Erick.
In his explanation, the Minister expressed hope that the management of the RSON facility could generate funds to cover the operational costs of the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center (CYESC), a training centre for young national athletes in Cibubur. He explained that maintaining the facility requires an annual budget of IDR 6 billion. However, the Ministry only has around IDR 600 million.
“Therefore, if the management of the RSON runs smoothly and yields results, it can help maintain the sports facilities there properly,” he said.
The Minister stated that the Ministry is working to realise this collaboration within this year. He added that this is part of the revitalisation of the CYESC facility into a rehabilitation and sports science centre. This is one of the 20 key programmes that Erick is striving to complete during his term.
In his explanation to the media, Minister Erick outlined the Ministry’s major programmes, including simplifying regulations, improving sports performance, promoting sports in the community, developing young athletes, preparing pension funds for athletes, and conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) for athletes with disabilities.
The Minister also mentioned efforts to collaborate with various parties to address funding limitations, such as Danantara, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Ministry of SMEs, and the Ministry of Tourism. He cited that the Ministry of Tourism has provided nine items related to Sports Tourism to be managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
In the field of youth development, the Ministry has a Youth Camp programme that will combine all existing youth programmes in the Ministry and synergise them with regional initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Ministry’s main focus this year is the performance of athletes at the Asian Games and Asian Para Games, which will be held in Japan.
“Of these 20 programmes, not all may be completed this year. Some require more time for implementation. Perhaps seven programmes can be realised this year, and we will try again next year for the remaining ones,” said the Minister.
