Republika.co.id, Jakarta — The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Taufik Hidayat, stressed the importance of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) within the national sports ecosystem. He delivered the remarks when opening the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) and Extraordinary National Sports Congress (Musornaslub) KONI 2026 at the Pullman Central Park Hotel in Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
Taufik emphasised that the Ministry of Youth and Sports continues to regard KONI and the national sport governing bodies as strategic partners in developing Indonesian athletes’ achievements. He said that synergy among all sports stakeholders is the key to improving national sporting achievements in the years ahead.
“Not in the slightest is there any intention from the Kemenpora to not cooperate with KONI and the sport federations. We see KONI and the sport bodies as strategic partners,” Taufik said.
He added that sport today is not only about achievement but also an instrument of diplomacy and a symbol of a nation’s strength amid global dynamics. Therefore, according to Taufik, all elements of national sport must unite to build a robust development system down to the grassroots.
“We are one big family in sport. Everyone must have the same goal, namely to produce high-achieving athletes who can bring honour to the nation,” he said.
Chairman of KONI Pusat, Marciano Norman, said Rakernas 2026 is an important moment to align the national sports agenda among the central KONI, regional KONI, the sport’s governing bodies, and the government. One focus of discussion is the refinement of the organisation’s Articles of Association and Bylaws and the synchronisation of the sports calendar so programmes do not clash.
Marciano also said the Rakernas would discuss the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) as a strategic platform for elite sport development aligned with the President’s Asta Cita development agenda.
“PON is the culmination of elite sport development that is a shared responsibility of the central KONI, regional KONI, and the sport’s governing bodies,” Marciano said.
In addition to the programme sessions, the Rakernas KONI 2026 also featured awards for outstanding sportspersons and Musornaslub to determine the host of PON 2032. The two-day Rakernas was attended by senior officials from the central and regional KONI, the sport’s governing bodies, and various sport stakeholders from across Indonesia.
