Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Monitors Recovery Progress of Child Victims of Daycare Violence

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection continues to monitor the progress of the physical and psychological recovery of children who were victims of violence at Daycare Little Aresha in Yogyakarta. “The Yogyakarta City UPTD PPA continues to provide psychological and legal counselling services, and collaborates with the Health Department to conduct health checks on the children, consisting of weight checks, arm circumference, head circumference, and child development assessments,” said Deputy for Special Child Protection at KemenPPPA, Titi Eko Rahayu, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday. She stated that upon discovery, many of the child victims were in poor health. “In general, regarding health conditions, many children suffered from pneumonia, impetigo, coughs, and colds,” said Titi Eko Rahayu. “As follow-up actions, the children have been referred to community health centres with funding from Yogyakarta City’s Jamkesda and DIY Province’s Jamkesos; 12 children were referred to nutritionists, 18 to psychologists, and 5 for combined referrals,” said Titi Eko Rahayu. In addition, psychological assessments revealed that many children experienced trauma. Based on data from the DIY UPTD PPA, there were 163 children who became victims of violence and neglect at the daycare, consisting of 88 boys and 75 girls. Yogyakarta Police have named 13 suspects in the case of child abuse and neglect at Daycare Little Aresha. Two of the 13 suspects are DK (51) as the foundation chair, and AP (42) as the school principal. The other eleven suspects are daycare caregivers.
