Jakarta — The Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) has expressed deep condolences over the death of Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), on Sunday.

“The entire KemenPPPA family expresses deep condolences over the death of Hajja Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah bint KH. M. Faruq, Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission,” said Women Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi in Jakarta on Sunday.

During her lifetime, KPAI Chairperson Margaret was deeply dedicated and committed to advancing and protecting children’s rights in Indonesia.

“Hajja Margaret was known for her dedication, commitment, and long service in advancing and protecting children’s rights in Indonesia. May Allah the Almighty accept all her good deeds, place her in the best position by His side, and grant strength and patience to the family left behind,” she said.

Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, Chairperson of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission, passed away at the age of 47 due to illness. She had previously undergone treatment at Fatmawati Hospital since 17 February 2026.

After 13 days of intensive care at the hospital, Margaret finally passed away on Sunday at 08.25 WIB.

The woman, who was born on 11 May 1978, was a women’s rights activist. In addition to serving as KPAI Chairperson, Margaret also served as General Chair of Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

She was the second daughter of Mohammad Faruq and Lilik Chodijah Aziz Bisri. Margaret received her basic education in a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) environment.

She subsequently studied at the Denanyar Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, completing her lower secondary and upper secondary education. She earned her bachelor’s degree from IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Indonesia in the Women’s Studies programme in 2009.
