Ministry of Transportation Supports KNKT's Investigation into Train Incident in East Bekasi
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) fully supports the investigation and simulation process carried out by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to determine the cause of the accident involving the Commuter Line train and the long-distance train at East Bekasi Station on Monday (27/4) evening. KNKT has conducted a simulation of the railway signalling system as part of the post-incident investigation into the electric rail (KRL) and KA Argo Bromo Anggrek collision at East Bekasi Station. “The simulation results are important material in identifying the factors causing the accident and potential system weaknesses,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi during a press conference at East Bekasi Station, which was followed online in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to him, the KNKT’s signalling simulation was carried out to understand possible technical causes, particularly related to the function and response of the signalling system during the incident. KNKT is conducting a comprehensive, objective investigation based on field data. For this reason, the minister continued, his side is committed to following up on the investigation results to improve railway operational safety. Meanwhile, PT Kereta Api Indonesia stated that the recovery of train operations on the downstream line has been opened on Tuesday (28/4) early morning. Then on Wednesday (29/4) early morning, the upstream line has been cleared of debris. This afternoon, Transport Minister Dudy also rode the KRL from East Bekasi Station to Cikarang Station as part of the test run for reopening the line previously affected by the accident incident. Previously, the collision incident between the Commuter Line train and the long-distance train occurred at East Bekasi Station on Monday (27/4) evening. As a result of the tragic incident, KAI stated that 107 people became victims, consisting of 16 deaths and 91 injuries as of Wednesday (29/4) afternoon. Of the 91 injured people, 43 passengers have been allowed to go home, while the rest are still undergoing treatment in hospital.
