Ministry of Transportation Revitalises Selat Lampa Port in Natuna

Natuna (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is revitalising Selat Lampa Port in Natuna Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province, as an effort to improve maritime services in the region.

Natuna Regent Cen Sui Lan stated in Natuna on Tuesday that on Tuesday morning, she, along with the Natuna District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Natuna), conducted a direct inspection of the construction site in Pulau Tiga Subdistrict.

“The progress of the work has reached five percent. We pray that all processes run smoothly,” she said.

Selat Lampa Port currently holds the status of a collecting port. The Natuna Regency Government has proposed upgrading this port to an open or international port by 2025. This proposal was approved in mid-2025 by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation.

Following the approval, the Ministry of Transportation is preparing plans to enhance the port’s facilities and infrastructure to optimise port services.

The port’s development is planned in three phases over three years. The first phase will begin in 2026 with a budget exceeding Rp20 billion.

One of the port’s future functions will be as a gateway for the export and import of the border region’s flagship commodities.

“This is a central government project aimed at helping Natuna to have an international port. We are grateful because after more than 20 years, there is revitalisation,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Site Manager of the Inno Rehabilitation Project stated that the project is targeted for completion in September 2026.

He explained that the Rp24 billion budget will be used for constructing the main gate, terminal, canteen, parking area, port fence, stacking yard, and several other facilities.

Even though it is still under construction, cargo loading and unloading activities and passenger embarkation and disembarkation continue to operate because the port remains operational.

“When passengers are embarking and disembarking, we temporarily halt the work. After it is finished, the work resumes,” he said.
