The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) recorded an increase in the number of Eid returnees using public transport during Eid 2026. Trains became the mode of transportation most chosen by the public.

The Ministry of Transportation, through the 2026 Integrated Eid Transport Centre Post, noted an increase in the number of returnees using public transport compared to the previous year.

“Public transport returnees up to Eid day are still quite high, but remain under control. The mode of transport most used is still trains,” said Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information Ernita Titis Dewi in her statement received in Jakarta on Monday (23/3/2026).

Cumulatively, the number of public transport passengers from H-8 or Friday (13/3) to Eid day H, Saturday (21/3), reached 10,887,584 people. This figure increased by 8.58 percent compared to the same period in Eid 2025, which recorded 10,027,482 people.

Based on data per mode, trains were the most used with a total of 3,349,343 passengers, up 13.46 percent from the previous year. Meanwhile, air transport recorded 2,397,192 passengers, an increase of 2.95 percent.

For ferry transport, the number of passengers reached 2,664,004 people, up 14.01 percent. Bus transport recorded 1,693,931 passengers, up 9.37 percent, and sea transport 783,114 passengers.

On Eid day H, Saturday, public transport passenger movement was recorded at 873,916 people.

In detail, the number of train passengers on Eid day reached 364,649 people, consisting of 205,335 intercity passengers and 159,314 urban passengers.

For air transport, 206,785 passengers were recorded, with details of 155,675 domestic and 51,110 international passengers. Meanwhile, ferry transport served 177,564 passengers, sea transport 21,141 passengers, and bus transport 103,777 passengers.

In addition to passenger movement, vehicle flow also increased at several points. On Eid day H, Saturday, vehicles exiting the Jakarta toll gate were recorded at 193,237 units, while those entering reached 122,074 units.

Total vehicle movement at toll gates in the Jabodetabek area reached 380,753 units, while outside Jabodetabek it was 353,546 units.

On arterial routes, vehicles exiting the Jabodetabek area reached 601,275 units, while those entering numbered 460,089 units. For arterial routes outside Jabodetabek, the total vehicles recorded were 607,366 units.

Kemenhub also reminded the public to start anticipating the Eid return flow, predicted to peak on Tuesday (24/3) or H+3.
