Ministry of Transportation Prepares Sanctions Against Green SM Taxi Following Train Accident
The Ministry of Transportation is conducting a thorough evaluation of the Vietnamese online taxi operator Green SM following the fatal accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4). The Ministry of Transportation is prepared to impose sanctions if violations are found.
Quoted from detikFinance, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that an investigative audit is underway, covering various aspects from operations and technical matters to human resources.
“So the investigative audit we are conducting covers all aspects, both operational aspects, technical aspects, as well as human resources, and this is still ongoing,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi during a press conference at Bekasi Timur Station on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
He said the evaluation is being carried out to ensure the implementation of the Public Transport Company Safety Management System (SMK PAU), both in terms of vehicles and driver eligibility.
“We want to make sure how the company provides services to the public, whether it complies with safety standards in particular, and also operational standards as a taxi company operating for the public,” said Dudy.
Dudy also emphasised that the government will not hesitate to take firm action if serious violations are found in the company’s operations. However, Dudy has not detailed what specific actions the Ministry of Transportation will take.
“We will not hesitate to take enforcement action if quite serious violations are found,” he stressed.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at the Green SM taxi depot in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday night (28/4). This sidak was carried out after the fatal accident between the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train and the KRL in Bekasi Timur.
The sidak aims to ensure that the implementation of the Public Transport Company Safety Management System (SMK PAU) is carried out in accordance with regulations because it relates to vehicle safety. The sidak was conducted at the Green SM Bekasi depot because it is the operational base of the vehicle suspected to be involved in the accident.
The inspection focused on checking the completeness of administration, vehicle roadworthiness, fleet operational readiness, and other safety elements.
“In organising public transport, there are several elements that must be carried out in accordance with SMK PAU. We conducted the sidak to ensure that all those safety aspects are implemented, from pre-trip inspections to driver competency and health,” explained Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan in a written statement on Wednesday (29/4).
“We want to ensure that the safety management system in public transport companies, including Green SM, has been implemented in accordance with regulations. From the initial inspection results, there are several findings that we will investigate further,” he added.
