Ministry of Transportation Inspects 60,946 Buses, Thousands Deemed Unfit for Operation
JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation has carried out safety inspections or ramp checks on 60,946 buses during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period.
Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan stated that the figure combines various public transport vehicles in the land sector.
“A total of 27,635 units or 45.34% are AKAP fleets, 27,461 units or 45.06% are AKDP vehicles, tourist transport totals 2,651 units or 4.35%, and other categories amount to 3,199 units or 5.25%,” Aan said in his official statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
From the checks conducted between 23 February 2026 and 23 March 2026, 38,758 units or 63.59% received operational approval status.
“And prohibited from operating due to major technical violations: 7,131 units or 11.70%,” he said.
The inspections were not limited to vehicles but also included drivers. A total of 683 drivers underwent checks.
“Most of the inspected drivers were healthy and fit to drive, namely 634 people or about 92.83%. Meanwhile, 40 people or 5.86% are fit to drive with notes, and 9 drivers were declared unfit to drive,” he stated.
On this day, ramp check activities were also conducted at the Rest Area at Km 45 of the Jagorawi Toll Road, Ciawi, Bogor Regency, given the high volume of public transport heading to Puncak and Sukabumi for tourism.
“Vehicles declared not to meet technical and/or administrative aspects include 2 vehicles with inactive BLU-e, 3 vehicles without BLU-e, 3 vehicles with inactive KPS, and 13 vehicles without KPS,” Aan said.
