Ministry of Transportation Conducts Ramp Checks on Over 60,000 Buses During Eid Transport Period
The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has conducted safety inspections or ramp checks on 60,946 bus fleets during the 2026 Eid transport period. This is to ensure the safety and comfort of travellers using public transport.
“From that number, 27,635 or 45.34% are AKAP fleets, 27,461 or 45.06% are AKDP vehicles, tourist transport 2,651 or 4.35%, and other categories 3,199 or 5.25%,” explained Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan in a statement in Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday (24/3).
Based on the ramp check results from 23 February 2026 to 23 March 2026, 60,946 bus units have been inspected, with details of Permitted Operation status for 38,758 units or 63.59%.
“There are Warning for Repairs (Technical Support Violations) for 13,116 units or 21.52%. Fined and Prohibited from Operation (Administrative Violations) for 1,941 units or 3.18%, and Prohibited from Operation (Major Technical Violations) for 7,131 units or 11.70%,” Aan clarified.
The authority stated that checks were not only on vehicles but also on drivers. The health of around 683 drivers has been examined.
“Most of the drivers checked are healthy and fit to drive, namely 634 people or about 92.83%. Meanwhile, 40 people or 5.86% are fit to drive with notes, and 9 drivers were declared unfit to drive,” he revealed.
On Tuesday (24/3), the ramp check activity was conducted at the Rest Area Km 45 Jagorawi Toll Ciawi, Bogor Regency. This is due to the high volume of public transport heading to Puncak and Sukabumi for tourism.
A total of 34 vehicles have been inspected at the Ciawi Rest Area, with details of 18 units Permitted for Operation, 16 vehicles declared Warning for Repairs (Technical Support Violations).
“Vehicles that do not meet technical and/or administrative aspects include inactive BLU-e for 2 vehicles, no BLU-e for 3 vehicles, inactive KPS for 3 vehicles, no KPS for 13 vehicles,” said Aan.
He urged all bus operators to cooperate in supporting safety and comfort aspects for the community during this major Idul Fitri celebration. This is done by operating roadworthy fleets and providing healthy and prime drivers. (H-3)
