Ministry of Transportation Conducts "Ramp Checks" on Over 60,000 Buses During Eid Transport Period
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has recorded conducting safety inspections or ramp checks on 60,946 bus fleets during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri transport period.
“Safety inspections were carried out to the maximum to ensure the safety and comfort of travellers using public transport during the Eid outbound and return flows,” said the Director General of Land Transportation of Kemenhub, Aan Suhanan, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He mentioned that of that number, 27,635 units or 45.34 percent inspected were fleets on inter-city inter-provincial (AKAP) routes; 27,461 or 45.06 percent vehicles on inter-city intra-provincial (AKDP) routes; then tourism transport 2,651 units or 4.35 percent.
“And other categories 3,199 units or 5.25 percent of the total inspected,” Aan explained.
Subsequently, there were repair warnings (technical support violations) for 13,116 units or 21.52 percent; received fines and operational bans (administrative violations) for 1,941 units or 3.18 percent; and operational bans (main technical violations) for 7,131 units or 11.70 percent of the total inspected.
He mentioned that checks were not only carried out on vehicles but also on drivers. The health of around 683 drivers has been examined.
Furthermore, Aan said that the majority of drivers examined were in healthy condition and fit to drive, namely 634 people or about 92.83 percent. Meanwhile, 40 people or 5.86 percent were fit to drive with notes, and 9 drivers were declared unfit to drive.
