The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is preparing a number of additional rest stops along arterial routes during the 2026 Eid homecoming period, especially for travellers using motorcycles. Some weighbridges and even mosques along arterial routes will be temporarily repurposed as rest areas for travellers.

“These rest areas are important because, especially on arterial routes, the Pantura corridor, we are preparing rest areas, weighing units or weighbridges; we will off-line them, close them, and turn them into rest areas,” said Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, during a discussion titled ‘Synergy between Government and Stakeholders for a Safe and Comfortable Mudik 2026’, at the Parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (5/3/2026).

He also said they are coordinating with the Ministry of Religious Affairs to prepare mosques. The mosques can be used as resting locations for homecomers.

“We have also coordinated with the Ministry of Religious Affairs; the ministry is preparing mosques that are friendly to homecomers,” he said.

Aan said some mosques will be temporarily repurposed as rest areas. In addition, these mosques will be equipped with an integrated service post.

“We are collaborating with the Ministry of Religious Affairs; some mosques will be repurposed as rest areas, especially for motorcycles,” he stated.

“There will be an integrated service post there from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, from health, from us, and from local government,” he added.
