Ministry of Transport Prepares 18 Per Cent Discount on Airfares for Eid Holiday Travel in 2026
The Ministry of Transport is preparing aeroplane ticket discounts of up to 18 per cent for the Eid holiday travel period in 1447 Hijriah (2026).
“The government has provided a stimulus for aeroplane tickets with discounts of up to 18 per cent,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, accompanied by West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, following a coordination meeting for preparations for the 2026 Eid holiday travel period in Mataram on Saturday.
He stated that the issue of allegedly high aeroplane ticket prices needs to be examined comprehensively. According to him, ticket prices may be influenced by availability and demand, so when the Eid holiday travel period occurs, demand often surges compared with aeroplane fleet readiness.
“This then often causes ticket prices to rise sharply. So there is supply and demand where there are some opportunities where perhaps tickets are felt to be somewhat expensive,” he said.
Dudy assured the public that the provision of discounts will be strictly monitored to ensure citizens truly experience a reduction in ticket prices during the 2026 Eid holiday travel period.
“But we assure you that the implementation of this stimulus will be strictly monitored so that citizens can truly experience a reduction in ticket prices,” he affirmed.
Additionally, his ministry will also monitor citizen complaints regarding ticket prices. This is done to ensure whether high prices are caused by genuinely increased tariffs or by the flight routes selected.
Dudy cited examples, noting that in some cases, ticket prices appear expensive because passengers choose transit routes through other cities rather than direct flights.
“So it is not a direct flight, and that is what causes the impression that tickets are expensive, when in fact the flight route selection is through transit in another city,” Dudy explained.
In addition to aeroplane ticket discounts, the government is also preparing free travel programmes for land and sea transport modes, including destinations to West Nusa Tenggara.
“We are preparing free travel for land transport modes, trains, and also sea transport. These include destinations heading to West Nusa Tenggara,” he said.
