Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) is optimising the free motorcycle transport programme (Motis) for the Lebaran 2026 travel period as a measure to curb road traffic accident risks, particularly among two-wheeled vehicles. Arif Anwar, Director of Traffic and Rail Transport at the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry, said that under the programme motorcyclists deposit their motorcycles to be transported by train, enabling longer journeys using a safer transport mode. “The aim of the Motis programme is to reduce accidents, because there are still many people using motorcycles,” Arif said at the event titled ‘NGOBRAS: Mudik, Nebeng Motis Aja’ in Jakarta on Thursday. He said the programme targets motorcycle users among the many travellers who still rely on motorcycles. Based on surveys, about 24.08 million people are estimated to use motorcycles for Lebaran 2026, so the government is promoting a safer transport mode. Through Motis, travellers can still bring their motorcycles to their hometowns without having to ride them on high-risk roads. Each registered motorcycle will receive two free tickets for passengers, so people can travel with the vehicle to their destination. “So one motorcycle will be facilitated with two free tickets for the people and an infant may be added. So if someone is bringing a child under three years old that is still allowed,” he said. With the capacity to transport tens of thousands of motorcycles, Motis is expected to reduce the potential for accidents that have historically been dominated by two-wheeled vehicles. The Ministry regards the programme as one of the safety risk mitigation strategies during the Lebaran period which is always marked by a surge in public mobility. The government also commits to increasing Motis capacity in the future if public interest continues to rise and railway facilities are available. The Layanan Angkutan Motor Gratis dengan Kereta Api (Motis) is being reinstated by the Ministry of Transport through the Directorate General of Railways in anticipation of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH. Registration for the programme opens from 1-29 March 2026, with the transport period 13-19 March 2026 for the outbound and 24-30 March 2026 for the return. Registration can be done online via nusantara.kemenhub.go.id or in person at the designated registration posts: Jakarta Gudang Station, Tangerang Station, Bekasi Station, Depok Baru Station, Kiaracondong Station, Cirebon Prujakan Station, Tegal Station, Pekalongan Station, Semarang Tawang Station, Cepu Station, Kroya Station, Purwokerto Station, Kebumen Station, Kutoarjo Station, Lempuyangan Station, Purwosari Station, and Madiun Station. The Motis service will operate on three main routes: North, Central, and South. Whereas in Lebaran 2025 the service covered only North and Central, this year the Government expands coverage to include the South. On the Motis North Line, trains will stop at Jakarta Gudang, Pasar Senen Station (passengers only), Bekasi Station (passengers only), Cirebon Prujakan, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang Tawang, and Cepu. On the Central Line, serving Jakarta Gudang, Pasar Senen (passengers only), Bekasi (passengers only), Cirebon Prujakan, Purwokerto, Kroya, Kutoarjo, and Lempuyangan. For the South Line, Jakarta Gudang, Pasar Senen (passengers only), Bekasi (passengers only), Kiaracondong, Kroya, Kebumen, Lempuyangan, Purwosari, and Madiun stations will be served. All Motis 2026 participants with rail transport must register online or at designated posts. Participants must not be currently registered for or participating in any other free mudik programme organised by any party. Registration requires identity documents (KTP, SIM, and valid STNK). In addition, motorcycles eligible for Motis are limited to engines up to 200 cc due to carriage capacity and to avoid accommodating larger motorcycles. Participants who have successfully registered via nusantara.kemenhub.go.id must follow the programme as scheduled. In the event of cancellations, participants must confirm at the registration post no later than seven days before departure.
