Ministry of Transport Digitally Monitors 1.7 Million Intercity Bus Journeys via App

The Ministry of Transport is strengthening digital oversight of 1.7 million intercity and interprovincial bus (AKAP) journeys recorded between January and June 2026 to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and passenger safety. Director General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan stated that supervision of AKAP buses is conducted digitally through the Terminal Online System (TOS) application, which has been implemented at 115 Type A Passenger Terminals across Indonesia. “The Directorate General of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport continues to bolster supervision of passenger transport operations to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and operator compliance,” Aan said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, 15 June 2026. Aan noted that the use of digital technology via the TOS application enables officers to supervise public transport more effectively. Based on TOS monitoring results from 1 January to 12 June 2026, AKAP services recorded departing from Type A Terminals reached 1,709,993 journeys, while arriving AKAP services totalled 1,759,161 journeys. The ministry also recorded that these millions of AKAP bus services transported 22,769,512 departing passengers and 21,790,578 arriving passengers through Type A Terminals. The system allows the ministry to monitor vehicle operations more effectively and identify various violations that could potentially affect the safety of passengers and other road users. “We have recorded a number of bus journeys declared roadworthy as well as buses indicated to have committed violations,” he explained. From the supervision of vehicles departing from 115 Type A Terminals, the Directorate General of Land Transport found that 989,176 journeys (57.85 per cent) were indicated to have committed violations, while 720,817 journeys (42.15 per cent) were declared compliant. Meanwhile, for arriving AKAP buses, 1,011,044 journeys (57.47 per cent) were indicated to have committed violations, and 748,117 journeys (42.33 per cent) were declared compliant. The supervision uncovered several administrative violations. The most frequently found violations included route deviations, expired periodic vehicle inspection certificates (BLUe), and expired Supervision Cards (KPS). Aan detailed the violations found on buses departing from Type A Terminals, comprising 579,641 route deviation violations, 265,673 expired periodic inspection violations, and 447,961 expired KPS violations.
