Ministry of Transport Claims Domestic Flight Tickets Cheaper Than International Routes

The Director of Air Transport at the Ministry of Transport, Agustinus Budi H, stated that domestic flight ticket prices are more affordable compared to international routes.

“During peak season, domestic ticket prices are actually cheaper than international tickets,” said Agustinus during an online press conference with the Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

He made this assertion after comparing domestic and international ticket prices during the holiday season (peak season).

“For example, a Jakarta-Singapore flight is about two hours. We also tried comparing it with our domestic routes of similar flight duration, and it turned out to be cheaper,” he explained.

“In fact, there are foreign operators that also apply expensive ticket prices during peak season,” Agustinus added.

The government has rolled out several holiday packages to support tourism. The Ministry of Tourism’s Assistant Deputy for Domestic Tourism Marketing, Erwita Dianti, noted: “We have collected approximately 71 Ramadan and Eid holiday tourism packages from 40 industries.”

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared a “Return to Jakarta” programme offering hotel discounts, flight ticket discounts, and free admission to tourist attractions during the 2026 Eid holiday for Jakarta residents.

The “Return to Jakarta” programme will run from 27 February 2026 to 31 March 2026.
