Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) on Thursday (7/5) evening sent off 36 participants, consisting of government employees, academics, and transmigrants, to attend a training programme on transmigration area development and poverty alleviation in China.

This activity is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Transmigration of RI and the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia.

The participants being sent consist of transmigrants, internal ministry analysts, trainers from transmigration training centres, officials at the level of directors and division heads from related government departments in Indonesia, as well as academics from 10 universities.

They will visit China for two weeks from 9 to 22 May 2026, participating in various activities including lectures, discussions, and field visits.

β€œIn 2021, China declared the elimination of extreme poverty within its country. We want to learn those best practices and implement them in Indonesia,” said the Minister of Transmigration of RI, M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, in his official statement.

The experience gained from the visit to China will serve as capital for the participants who will later initiate the Tim Ekspedisi Patriot (TEP) programme. TEP is a community empowerment programme in 53 transmigration areas across Indonesia, particularly 10 transmigration areas in the Papua region.

This programme is not the first of its kind, as in recent years, Indonesia has routinely sent dozens of village heads to learn about village development and poverty alleviation in China through partnerships with the Chinese Embassy for Indonesia and also related government departments in China.
